Finding things near you
Show only posts within a distance of you, or of any place you choose.
On the Market tab
- Tap Market, then Distance in the second row of filters. It is not there while Events is chosen.
- Location & Radius opens (Set Location & Radius in the web app). To use where you are, tap the target button. Or tap the map, or drag the pin, to choose another centre.
- Choose how far with Search radius: from 100 metres to 50 kilometres.
- Tap Apply. The button then shows the distance, like 5km.
- To go back to everything, open it again and tap Reset. In the web app you can also tap the โ on Distance.
On the phone, posts with no location are always shown. In the web app a Distance hides them, except polls. On the global community the web app also leaves them out while the list is near you (below).
In the web app, the picker opens on the last centre you chose, or else on the community's own place (a view of the world if it has none). Check the pin, or tap the map, drag the pin or tap the target button to choose the centre, before you tap Apply. It asks for your location only when you tap the target button. On the global community the web app sends the centre you chose to the community, for the Market, the Map and Home, rounded to about a kilometre. It goes closer when you pick a small radius, or when a search you saved to Home looks within a small distance.
On the phone the picker opens on the last centre you chose, or on a fixed spot, so tap the target button first.
On the Map
The map has no distance filter of its own. Tap the target button on the left to see where you are, then look around and zoom.
On the global community, in the web app
The global community has listings from everywhere, so the web app's Market and Map start from near you:
- With a Distance chosen on the Market, both show the nearest listings within it, nearest first. The Map shows up to 200 pins.
- Without one, they show the nearest listings within 250 km of your area: the rough place you give the community when you join, or later in Settings, under Your area. A line above the Market's list says Nearest to your area first, within 250 km. Tap Show everywhere for the newest from everywhere, and Near your area to come back.
- With neither, you see the newest from everywhere, and See what's near you opens the distance picker. A line above the Market's list says which of these you are seeing. With a Distance it has no button: open Distance and tap Reset. You are then back near your area, or, with no area set, you see the newest from everywhere.
- Each listing shows how far away it is, like ๐ 12 km. Your own listings are always on the Map, and on the Market near your area, wherever they are. With a Distance, the Market shows only what is within it, yours too.
- While the list is near you, posts with no location are left out. A poll from someone who has not set their area is one of them. To see them, reset the Distance if you chose one, then tap Show everywhere.
- Under Events the list is never cut by your area or your Distance, as before.
- If nothing is near, the Map says so, with Show everywhere. Then Near your area (or Near the place you picked) brings the nearest back.
The web app's search looks only through the listings on screen. Show everywhere shows the newest listings from everywhere, not every one, so a listing that is far away and not new won't come up in the search. In every other community the web app does not cut the Market or the Map by your area. They show the 50 most recently changed listings and your own, and search looks only through those.
On the global community, on the phone
The phone keeps the listings nearest your area: up to 500, within 250 km. It also keeps your own listings, and any you have a deal, a chat or an answer on. The Market and the Map show what the phone keeps. With no area set, it keeps the newest listings instead, and a line above the Market says so. See "Your area".
Events near you
On the phone, event cards show how far away they are once you have let the app use your location. In the web app they show it from the centre you chose in Distance. On the global community, if you have not chosen one, they show it from your area (not under Events). On the Map, the web app shows it from you once you tap the target.
