Where your pin goes
Who sees where your posts and events are, and how to keep your home private.
You choose the spot
Every Offer and Need has a place on the map. You choose it when you post:
- My location uses where your phone is right now.
- Drop a pin lets you tap any spot on the map.
Every member of your community can see the pin at that spot, to within about 10 metres. The app does not blur it for you. People who have not joined can't see your community's listings. On the global community they can, but only roughly where each one is, never the spot.
On the global community, other members see your listing's pin to about a kilometre; the exact spot is yours to share. In the web app a new pin there starts rounded to about 100 metres: tap Use the exact spot to keep the spot you chose.
If you post from home and do not want people to know your address, use Drop a pin and put it somewhere nearby instead: a corner, a park, the shops. You can tell the other person the exact place in a message once you have agreed.
You cannot move an Offer's or a Need's pin later. To change it, delete the post and post it again. A host can move an event's pin by editing the event.
Events
When you create an event, place the pin first, then tap Approximate (~100 m). The pin then shows only roughly where it is. If you move the pin afterwards, tap it again. On the global community a new pin starts Approximate, and Use the exact spot puts it back where you placed it. There, only the hosts and the people who can read the note see the exact spot; other members see it to about a kilometre.
Everyone can see the event's place name, so do not type your home address there. Put the exact address in Note for people who are going. The hosts can read it, and so can everyone who taps Going, unless the host ticked Only people I let in see the note and chat: then only the people the host lets in. That box starts ticked on the global community.
What is never shown
- Your own position. The dot that shows where you are is only on your own screen. It is blue on the phone and green in the web app.
- Polls have no place of their own. On the global community a poll is shown at its poster's area, about 10 km around it, if the poster has set one.
