Events

Create an event, in a place or online, once or repeating; say you are going, be reminded, share it, and run it as the host.

Finding events

Your events

In the Market, tap ★ For You. Your events is the first thing on it: everything you have said you are Going to or Interested in, soonest first. Tap one to open it.

It is only there when you have something coming up, and it holds only your own answers — nobody else can see it.

Going

On an event, tap Going or Interested. Tap your choice again to clear it.

When you are Going:

Tap the event to see everything, and Show on map. On the phone it opens your maps app. In the web app it shows the place on the Map.

Being reminded

When you are Going or Interested, the event shows Remind me and how long before it starts you will be told — 1 day before (your default) until you change it.

To change your usual choice for every event, see "Notifications".

Reminders come as alerts on your phone, with your Marketplace alerts, so they stop if you switch those off. You are never reminded about an event that was cancelled or has ended, and never about a time that had already passed when you said you were coming.

Telling someone about it

Open the event and tap Share. Your phone's usual share sheet opens with the event's name, when it is, where it is, and a link. On a computer, the link is copied for you to paste.

Anyone who taps that link opens the event — in the app if they have it, in the web app otherwise. Someone who is not in your community lands on its join page. In a web browser, the global community shows them the event first, as a visitor sees it, and opens it again once they have joined.

Where your community allows it, the event also has Share outside the community: a link that shows someone who isn't a member this one event for 7 days, without anyone's name or face, and without the place you typed or the private note: only roughly where it is and when. See "Browsing the Market" for what it shows and how to stop it.

Where you can invite people, the event also has Invite and share: one invite for one person, which brings a friend into the community and, once they have joined, to this event. See "Browsing the Market" for how it works.

Putting it in your calendar

Open the event and tap Add to calendar.

The entry carries the name, the time, the place and the link back to the event. If the host later changes the time, your calendar does not change with it — the app will still remind you, and the event itself always shows the new time.

Creating an event

In the web app the title box is What's happening, the pin buttons are 📍 My location and 📌 Drop a pin, and the last button is Create Event.

You can have 5 upcoming events at a time. A group's events count against the group, and an enterprise's against the enterprise.

If you are an owner or admin of your community, you can have as many as your owners' Owner and admin limit allows instead: 100 unless an owner changes it. It counts the same way, and it goes with the role: if you stop being an owner or admin, the 5 apply again at once.

Running your event

Open your event. As the host you can:

Showing your event on the global community

On a local community, an event at a place can also show on the global community, so people who aren't in your community yet can find it. It is off unless you turn it on: tick Also show this on the global community when you create the event, or open the event and tap the same words.

Your phone or your web browser posts your own copy there, with your own key, if you are a member of the global community. Your community's server has no part in it and isn't told.

An edit, a new time, a cancelled date and Cancel event follow onto the copy from your phone or browser. If it can't reach the global community, it tries again later. Stop showing on the event takes the copy down, and so does moving the event online. A copy still counts as one of your posts there, and if nothing of yours can look after it any more (say you got a new phone), it comes off after 90 days without a change; until then you can remove it yourself from your posts on the global community. Holiday mode on your own community takes the copy down, and your phone or browser puts it back up when you're back. Holiday mode on the global community doesn't hide a copy, because that would show it is yours: use Stop showing.

Repeating events

A repeating event shows ↻ and how often beside its date, such as Every Friday or Monthly on the 16th. Its card shows the next date; open it to see Next dates.

If you host it, each of the next dates has:

Cancel event cancels every date, and its chat becomes read-only. Until then the chat stays open between dates, up to the last date; with no Until, it stays open until you cancel the event.

The same guide is in the BeanPool app, and works there without a connection: open Settings, then "Help & how it works" under BeanPool. Every other rule, guide and manual is in the Help Centre. Guide version 165.
