Event chat
Talk with the host and everyone going to an event.
Who is in it
Every event has its own chat. The host and everyone who has tapped Going can read it and write in it. Where the host lets people in, it is the people going whom the host has let in: until then the chat says Chat opens when the host lets you in. If you change to Interested, or tap Going again to clear it, you leave the chat. The host is always in it.
Opening it
- Open the event and tap Open event chat.
- Or find it in Talk, under Groups, marked 📅 Event. In the web app it is in the Chat tab, with your other chats.
At the top, a pinned box shows the host's Note for people who are going, such as the exact address. Tap the event's name at the very top (in the web app, View event) to go back to the event.
Writing
Type in Message everyone going… and tap the send button. You can send up to 30 messages a minute. The newest message sits just above the message box and stays there when the keyboard opens.
Good to know
- Event chats are not end-to-end encrypted. The host, everyone going (where the host lets people in, the ones the host has let in), and the people who run your community's server can read them. The chat says so above the message box. Because the server can read the chat, photos cannot be sent in an event chat.
- The host can remove any message. Tap it, then Remove. It then says "removed by the host".
- An event chat has no reply, no reactions, no editing and no deleting your own message — unlike a chat with a person or a group's chat. Ask the host to remove something you regret. If you delete your account, every message you wrote here reads This message was deleted.
- When the event ends or is cancelled, the chat becomes read-only. A repeating event's chat stays open between dates: up to its last date if the host set an Until, and until the host cancels the event if not. Thirty days after the end it goes away.
