People and friends
Find members of your community, add friends, and vouch for someone.
Finding people
Tap Chat, then People. In the web app, tap People in the row of tabs. There are three buttons:
- Friends: people you have added.
- Community: every member. Search by name. On the phone, sort by Newest, Name, Friends, Trusted or Active. On the global community it shows the members nearest your area: type at least 2 letters of a name to find anyone else.
- Invites: invite someone new. See "Joining BeanPool". If you have not joined yet, this button says Register. When people have asked to join your community, it shows how many, and they are listed under Wants to join. In the web app this button is always ๐๏ธ Invites, never Register. It shows how many have asked too, such as ๐๏ธ Invites (2), with the same Wants to join list.
Tap a person to see their profile: their reviews and posts, and, on the phone in a community with Beans, their trust badge and trades. You can message them straight from their profile with Message, or add them as a friend with + Add friend. See "Your profile".
Friends
- In Community, tap ๐ฌ to start a chat, or tap + Add next to a name. It changes to Added. Tap Added to take them off again. In the web app it changes to โ Friend, which you can't tap: to take someone off, use Remove under Friends. You can also message someone or add them as a friend straight from their profile.
- In Friends, tap ๐ฌ to start a chat, or the remove button, then Remove, to take someone off.
- When someone adds you, the top of Friends says who, such as "Sam added you", with Add back. Tap their name to see their profile first. There is no notification. The line goes when you add them back, or after 30 days. Up to 20 are shown, then how many more.
- You can add up to 100 people in any 24 hours. Taking someone off counts too. If you reach it, the app says so and when you can add someone again.
- You can't add someone you have blocked: unblock them first. See "Blocking someone".
Friends are a shortcut for you. If you choose Friends for your contact details, only they can see them. See "Your profile".
Nobody else can read your friends list. The person you add sees that you did.
Connections in common
A member's profile can show connections in common: people you can ask about them. Someone is shown there only when you are friends both ways with someone who is friends both ways with them. That means you and that person have added each other, and that person and the member have added each other too. Adding someone on your own never puts anyone there, and nor does someone adding you. Up to 12 are shown. Tap a name to see their profile.
You can choose not to be shown as anyone's connection in common. In Settings, under Legal & Privacy, turn off Show me as a connection in common. Then nobody sees your name there, and you are not counted. It is on until you turn it off. See "Your privacy".
Vouching for someone
A voucher can vouch for a member who has already joined, giving them a credit line to start trading with. Vouchers are owners and admins by role, and members set as vouchers on the names list by an owner or credit-committee admin.
On the member's profile, a voucher taps Vouch for @name and chooses 25, 50, 75 or 100 Beans, from their voucher budget. No Beans leave the voucher's own wallet.
- One vouch per person: each voucher can vouch for a person once. You can later raise your vouch for them, up to 100 Beans in total.
- At most 3 vouchers: at most 3 vouchers can vouch for the same person (up to 300 Beans total).
- Never below zero: you cannot vouch for a member who is below zero now. To help someone in debt, members can give part of their credit line on Send, or propose a community Decision.
See "Joining BeanPool" and "Your credit line".
