The circulation fee
A small monthly fee on large balances, so beans keep moving. The first 200 are free.
Why
Beans are for using, not for piling up. A small fee on large balances keeps them moving around the community. It goes to the Commons, for everyone.
How much
Only beans you hold above 200 pay. Each part of your balance pays its own rate, per month:
- the first 200: nothing;
- from 200 to 500: 1%;
- from 500 to 1,000: 1.5%;
- from 1,000 to 2,000: 2%;
- above 2,000: 2.5%.
A balance below zero pays nothing. Nobody pays interest on debt.
For example, holding 600 beans for a month costs about 4.5 beans: nothing on the first 200, 3 on the next 300, and 1.5 on the last 100.
When
The fee builds up day by day and is taken a little at a time, whenever your account is next used. You do not lose a lump on one day.
Seeing it
On the Ledger, Wallet, the Community Circulation box shows about how much you will pay this month. It only shows when you hold beans. Above 1,000 beans it turns amber and suggests spending some.
Tap it for System Circulation, which explains the fee.
Holiday Mode does not pause the fee.
